I’m Yours (2009)

Storytelling is often a neglected art in modern R&B. Singers still tell stories in their songs. However, the songs that seem to get the most recognition seem to the ones describing the singer’s sexual prowess. The singer Taurus Soul displays a skill as a modern soul storyteller on I’m Yours, a set of 14 songs geared toward the hip-hop soul crowd and urban radio. Taurus Soul sprinkles I’m Yours with bedroom ready tracks, dance songs and tunes that tell a story. His buttery tenor and his mastery of the staccato, rapid-fire vocal style that merges singing and rapping will be honey to the ears of young listeners. However, Taurus Soul avoids getting too explicit with his material. For example, he takes listeners to the bedroom on "Red Light Zone," the opening track on I’m Yours, but the lyrics leave enough to the imagination to allow the song to be played in mixed company.

There is a lot for the youngsters and the grown and sexy crowd to like on I’m Yours. The kids will take to club ready hits such as "Get a Grip," while tunes such as "You Give Your Love" will make the grown ups recall past loves and appreciate present loves. Taurus Soul was taking a few notes when he raided his parents’ record collection.
