After nearly two quiet decades, it's great to hear Margie Joseph singing again, even if it is just a tasting like Latter Rain, Joseph's first recording on her own Sistahpraise Records. A seven song combination of traditional Gospel tunes and new compositions by Joseph and Susan Tapper, Latter Rain is a solid reintroduction to this great singer. Working with producer/multi-instrumentalist Dale Ramsey, Joseph has put together an enjoyable package that covers a broad swath sonically, but with consistent lyrics of praise.
Most folks will rightfully gravitate to the title cut, a seven-minute modern Gospel number that has a engaging R&B groove to it. But for me, Margie seals the deal when she let loose on the Gospel standard "Walk Around Heaven" and her closing original ballad "When Jesus Walked He Walked For Me." Latter Rain is a welcome return and hopefully a new beginning for this classic vocalist.
