When it comes to getting theirs as an independent artist today, those serious about their craft already know: one must perfect their art while simultaneously ear hustling in any avenue possible. Waiting for that niece with an internship at Big Baller Records to persuade the boss to catch your performance is a long shot at best and some real ingenuity can get the job done.
This common-sense approach is what Derrick Pryce, AKA Kebomusic, has endeavored to employ with The Experience, a CD that unites the Atlanta-based producer’s self-made tracks with vocals from some of today’s hottest underground performers.

If the ladies bring the sunshine to the party, the gentlemen add a kiss of chill: Steve Wallace kicks off the jams with the acidic jazz vibe of the philosophical “Escalators,” while Derwin Daniels wraps it all up with a sinuous and smoky “Cadillac Dreams,” perfect for contemplative walks or steamy interludes. Kenny Wesley is featured twice, dipping and gliding around the evocative “Still Here” and adopting a breathy low-key persona on the turbulent “Indescribable.”
Despite the relative brevity of the CD, The Experience is capable of moving the crowd, cooling out the rush hour drive and adding ambience to whatever moment one wishes to create (individually or otherwise). He may be one Atlanta’s best kept secrets right now, but if Derrick Pryce continues to march to his own beats while others jam round pegs into square holes,Kebomusic’s days of toiling under the radar are all but numbered. Recommended.
