Jerri Curl Muzic (2009)

Autotune is being done to death these days. Of course, that technology is not new, and a similar technology was used most famously by the late Roger Troutman, leader of the 1980s funk band Zapp. It is Troutman rather than contemporary artists who serves as the inspiration for Bigg Robb on his latest CD, Jerri Curl Muzic. This record pays homage not only to Troutman, but to 1980s era funk and southern soul. The record’s best song, "Money," which includes performances by Kurtis Blow and Al B Sure, is a retro tribute to Troutman.

Jerri Curl Muzic is record that will be enjoyed by fans of 1980s black radio who will appreciate how Bigg Robb captured the essence of the era. It is clear that he appreciates the music of artists such as Carl Carlton, Roger, the Bar Kays and a variety of blues and southern soul acts. Other listeners may find themselves cherry picking the tunes that represent the genres that they liked and leaving others alone. Notable tracks: Money, If I Get Drunk, Chocolate Puddin’, I Wouldn’t Beg
