(September 25, 2024) She was dynamically sexy and talented, and played a role in the Imperial Period of one of our greatest artists. Today we say a said goodbye to dancer, choreographer, rapper and singer Catherine Vernice “Cat” Glover at the too young age of 60. The sad news was posted on Glover’s Facebook Page. Glover became a star during the late 1980s as part of Prince’s inner circle. With her electrifying moves and high-energy stage presence, she was an unforgettable figure, especially during Prince’s Sign o’ the Times and Lovesexy tours.
Born in Chicago, Glover first came to the world’s attention as a contestant on Star Search, where she won with dance partner Patrick Allen. But it was her later connection with Prince that significantly elevated her career. Cat first met Prince in the mid-1980s, and their collaboration began when she joined him on the Sign o’ the Times tour as a featured dancer. Her fiery dance routines and charismatic personality were a perfect match for Prince’s eclectic and visually captivating performances.
Glover’s role expanded during the Lovesexy era, where she not only danced but also contributed vocals to Prince’s work, most notably on tracks like “Alphabet St.” Her distinctive rap delivery in the song became a highlight.
While her time with Prince made her a household name in the 1980s, Glover also worked more broadly as a choreographer, helping to craft the movement and style for other artists.
After her time with Prince, Glover released her own album, Catwoman, in 1989. She continued to dance, perform, and choreograph, though she stepped out of the limelight somewhat compared to her earlier years. Nevertheless, her legacy as one of the most memorable dancers of her generation remains intact, with fans still celebrating her contributions to some of the most iconic moments in recent music history. She will be greatly missed.
