February 5th, 2025: While life’s unique experiences can help inform who we become, our roots will always be a part of who we are. In Afro-pop soul singer-songwriter TolumiDE’s upcoming album, she embraces her culture through soulful songs infused with her West-African-Nigerian heritage. With thoughtful lyrics about throwbacks, beautiful friendships, sunshine, peace, and love, she tells of her lifelong journey from childhood to becoming an Afropolitan woman. Set for an exclusive Bandcamp release on February 7th, 2025, TolumiDE’s 15-track album, Suya Soul, is a vibrant collection of inspirational songs that reflect a deep-seated sense of gratitude.
“I’m growing and learning more about myself and the joys and pains of being an adult with more responsibilities, more relationships, experiences and more golden moments,” TolumiDE shares. “I’m grateful to God for the experiences and the heart to keep moving and keep looking forward to brighter days when cloudy moments arise.”
All songs on Suya Soul were written by TolumiDE, who enjoyed the creative process in collaboration with other artists, musicians, and producers. Notably, “Throwback” features Tosin Otudeko (aka The Garden Theatre), while “Goody Goody” features Latunde Silver. Album producers include Terry Poindexter, Vincent Othieno, James Mckinney, Dayo Afolabi, Lorenzo Johnson and Vershawn Thompson. The musicians, many of whom are also part of TolumiDE’s live band, include Emmanuel Adams (Drums/Music Director), Chris Ejenake (Bass), Kevin Prince (Percussion), Seyi Clegg (Saxophone), John Basheghezi (Guitar), Tosin Aribisala (Drums), Olaolu Ajibade (Drums) and Ola Thomas (African Talking Drum). Throughout the creative process, TolumiDE has been inspired by how each song has come to life.
The future is bright for TolumiDE, who will soon release “Suya Soul” on vinyl, CD, and cassette tapes. With plans to perform songs from her album at live shows, she looks forward to touring the United States, Canada, Europe, and Africa.
Her accolades include winning the Best R&B Female Artist at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards, opening for Les Nubians at the Howard Theatre, opening for Salif Keita, and singing with Toby Foyeh and Africa Orchestra at the Toronto Jazz Festival. She has also headlined shows at the Legendary Blues Alley and Carlyle Room in Washington, D.C.
No matter how audiences experience her music, TolumiDE wants them to feel enlightened by African culture, “to feel good, happy, and motivated when they are feeling low and hyped when they are feeling happy.”
