The talented vocalist Sevyn Streeter has been a mainstay on our Fresh Soul playlist for months with her track “Before I Do,” which has dominated Urban AC radio since its release in 2017 and is the centerpiece of her strong debut album, Girl Disrupted. But well before her full-length debut, Sevyn was charting with various other singles, including a personal favorite, “It Won’t Stop,” a duet with Chris Brown that reached #9 on the Billboard R&B chart in 2013.
In 2014, NPR Music asked Sevyn to perform a stripped down, acoustic version of the track live in a busy New Orleans boxing gym as part of its “Field Recordings” series. There is something special about Sevyn’s powerful and flawless vocal here, her band’s groove, and the acoustics of the tattered venue that make this performance truly a lost gem. Enjoy!
