Here is the latest in our new SoulTracks feature called “Lost Gem.” It gives SoulTrackers a chance to hear a gem of a song that they haven’t listened to before — or at least not for a long time. We hope to bring you some of the best music you’ve never heard.
Enchantment was undoubtedly one of the hottest products to come of Detroit in the late 70s. With hits like “Gloria” and “It’s You That I Need,” the group combined lush arrangements, great songs and the unique falsetto stylings of lead singer E.J. Johnson to become a fan favorite.
By the time Enchantment reached Columbia Records in 1982, a little of the group’s luster had worn off, and their terrific album, Utopia, received neither the label push nor radio acceptance that it deserved. But those who found the album cherished it, perhaps especially the great ballad, “Love Struck.” Check it out below and enjoy it again…or the first time!
