Talented singer and songwriter Joe Thomas, aka Joe, has been pleasing soul music audiences for three decades, with one great album after another. But he took his many fans on a fun twist back in 2016 when he showed his musical versatility by adding a country twist to his song “Hollow.”
Of course, the idea of adult soul artist touching on country influences was nothing new. Lionel Richie created one of the top albums of the year back in 2012 with Tuskegee, and in the years since we’ve seen artists from Fantasia to Beyonce blend styles effectively.
But it was still a big deal when Joe joined the fray with “Hollow,” an extremely enjoyable cut that was driven by an electric guitar and his familiar tenor voice. It tells the familiar story of a man whose loss of his woman is really hitting home, leaving him with the empty feeling of regret. Joe does a great job and delivers a cut that quietly pleased both soul music fans and new country fans, though it remained simply an album cut. Check out this Lost Gem below.
