He was a legend and one of the most versatile artists of the second half of the 20th Century. George Duke not only stood as one of the true master keyboardists of his time, performing with everyone from Cannonball Adderley to Frank Zappa to Deniece Williams to Michael Jackson, but he also seemingly produced every major adult soul artist of the 80s and 90s
Duke also established an enviable solo career that won over jazz and soul audiences with his keen sense of melody, his classy production, and a great, soulful falsetto voice. He was simply one of a kind.
Back in 2002, Duke released the hit album, Face The Music, which included a number of tasty cuts, with none better than his seven-and-one-half minute mellow jam, “Guess You’re Not The One.” The song has a late-night groove, Duke’s jazzy piano stylings and great vocal work. We loved it then and it sounds just as good now.
