SoulTracks Lost Gem: The Dells really “Wish That It Was Me You Loved”

dellsvsdramatics

Sometimes even we who are good at remembering can forget. And I forgot this absolute GEM from The MIGHTY, MIGHTY DELLS. From the 1974 LP The Dells vs The Dramatics (NOT on a regular Dells album~!), written by Jackie Avery of the forgotten band “Melting Pot”, this Don Davis production is as sensitive, basic and plaintive a wish we have all felt at one time or another: “I Wish That It Was Me You Loved”

Thank you, SoulTracks Music Editor L. Michael Gipson, for reminding me in the summer of 2012 of the simple brilliance of this Marvin Junior and Johnny Carter led torch of a song. SoulTrackers what say ye about this Lost Gem?
