A few months ago, SoulTrackers were probably unfamiliar with the very talented Rasheed Ali, but his release of 1968: Soul Power! changed all that. The album made our list of the Best Albums of 2015, and won the coveted Highly Recommended recommendation from our reviewer Howard Dukes. And there is good reason: The album uncannily captures the sound, feelings and aura of that incredible year — and just as uncannily brings it forward to 2015 in a way that shows the similarity between then and now.
Rasheed tells us about the album: “Can a musician go back in time to create a music that gives new life to our history? I wanted to make some new music that would make the old heads smile and dance. For me, 1968: Soul Power! is a coming of age story for a generation of radical free-thinking kids (like me). In many ways this album is autobiographical since the ’70s were my teen years.”
We’ve been huge fans of the project since it was released a few months ago, and now we’re extremely proud to bring it front and center for SoulTrackers to enjoy as our newest SoulTracks Listening Room. You’ll want to bask in the glow of this terrific, funky, timeless album.
