(July 1, 2023) A lot of cool things are happening for Kool & the Gang these days. The iconic band – led by founding members Robert “Kool” Bell (bassist) and George “Funky” Brown (keyboardist, drummer) – is currently on their “Kool & the Gang Rock the World Tour,” which is sponsored by Bell’s own “Le Kool Champagne”. And the R&B/funk legends have a new album coming out (their 34th album overall) entitled People Just Wanna Have Fun, in celebration of their 60th anniversary next year.
Our latest First Listen is the group’s new summer single, “We Are The Party.” A follow-up to their first single “Let’s Party”, “We Are the Party” is a funky, horn-driven jam that can easily get you movin’ and groovin’ as do so many other hits in Kool & the Gang’s extensive catalog like “Hollywood Swinging”, “Get Down On It”, “Ladies Night” and “Celebration.” “We Are The Party” reminds you that the legendary act makes the party go wherever they go; that’s fitting especially since they’ve been continuously bringing the party to stages longer than any R&B group in history.
Kool & the Gang’s new album People Just Wanna Have Fun is to be released on July 14th, and three days prior on July 11th George “Funky” Brown’s autobiography Too Hot: Kool & the Gang & Me will be available to the public.
