(April 5, 2021) When it comes to intimate connections, let’s face it: nearly anyone could get the job done if it’s simply about parts and mechanics. But when someone intrigues both the brain and the body, the journey becomes that much more rewarding. The ascent from the cerebral into the sensual is what listeners are getting a taste of from soul artist Such‘s latest single, “All I Want.”
For those with, ahem, experience, the difference between a ‘sprint’ and a ‘marathon’ is not only speed but preparation and technique. Such, an award-winning songstress with both a supple soprano and celebrated acting chops (for her role as Celie in the Broadway production of The Color Purple), paints a vivid, yet elegant scenario of two lovers settling in for an unhurried interlude of exploration, above and below the covers: “Let’s play some chess, truth or dare…..your body’s on mine, let’s take our time/forget the past, it’s just us at last.”
It takes an artist of great self-awareness and skill to inject the perfect balance of sweet and sultry: Such’s UK acclaim and African awards are a testament to those talents and should intrigue even more ears to unfurl more of them in her latest set, Wide Nose and Full Lips. With Spring in the air and a world making strides to close distances and renew relationships, “All I Want” is a soulful, come-hither invitation to do just that.
