(August 26, 2019) And the summer jams just keep on coming.
Stepping into breezy D’Angelo soul, four-piece Brighton band Yakul delivers an exceptional track to our ears with “Getting Late.” Thanks to its sweet blend of funky guitar riffs, jazzy progressions, euphoric synths and contemporary R&B grit, the song plays like a cool hip voyage, marinating the best of neo-soul finesse with Thundercat-esque musicology. And with that cheery expanded chorus and an added verse from UK rapper Louis VI, it resonates in such a way that it’s ready to smash adult R&B radio.
The band told us that “‘Getting Late’ was written with the idea that it’d be played out in summer on the beach or at a festival or somewhere like that. It was great to do something that was more straight ahead while still keeping to the core of what we think our sound is. Mad love to Louis VI for smashing a verse on this too; he really took it to another level!”
Fire up this track and let us know, SoulTrackers, if you’re vibin’ this one.
