First Listen: Tristan takes us through groovy “Changes”

(January 30, 2025) Tristan is a band that is based in the Netherlands. However, their latest single, “Changes,” really captures that American moment that we find ourselves living through. “Changes” is trademark Tristan: with vocalist Irma Derby taking the lead, the song has the optimistic sound of 1970s era pop and R&B.

“Changes,” with is an advance single from the upcoming album Frou-Frou, is a song that encourages people to transform the things that they can. It’s about remaining optimistic and doing the work daily to change how we relate to those in our circle. The song is an encouragement to pay it forward, to be present to provide a smile and a word of encouragement to those who need it.

“Changes” is also a reminder not to give in to fear or to be discouraged by the setbacks that will come. Change happens “step by step/day by day” and “smile by smile” as Derby sings. The message to control what we can and to build daily on the connections that we make is one that can help us emerge from the situation we find ourselves confronting.
