First Listen: The Lovetown Allstars and Gary B. Poole take a “Walk”

(February 1, 2021) London-born Gary B. Poole gained widespread recognition throughout the UK in 2014 as a contestant on The Voice. He’d been paying his dues in the music industry, however, for two decades prior. As part of late-‘90s contemporary R&B outfit Troi and backing acid jazz favorites D-Influence, Poole established a track record as an enticing soul vocalist.

In recent times, Poole has lent his talent to a number of soulful indie records by the likes of Cool Million and The Lovetown Allstars, the latter with which he has joined forces for a second time on the smooth-grooving “Walk This Way.” Borrowing the familiar refrain from Aerosmith’s rock classic, the new tune is a pleasingly laid back number embedded with softly sparkling keyboard flourishes and subtle guitar funkiness underneath Poole’s confidently restrained performance.

The Lovetown Allstars, led by multi-instrumentalist/producer Tim Jones, made a sound impression with its 2013 album featuring the likes of Junior, Marc Sadane, and Carol Williams. Let’s hope that “Walk This Way” featuring Gary Poole is the start of another round of new tunes from one of modern soul’s hidden treasures.
