(April 22, 2023) The vocal quintet The Group Fire is new to SoulTracks, but we are soooo glad we found them. With influences ranging from The Winans to New Edition, the group, consisting of the three Cooper brothers (Terelle, Juwan and Justin) and the two Hill brothers (Tajohn and Al) has arisen out of New Jersey with a sound that blends old school and new school and a series of YouTube videos that show of exquisite harmonies.
The Group Fire combines Gospel and what they label “Positive R&B” in a way that has absolutely hooked us. And for our latest First Listen, we’re featuring the upbeat, harmony-filled number from their latest album, Heal the Land. “More Than Friends” is an ode to divine friendship “closer than a brother,” with a sound that echoes the vibe of early 2000s R&B and with a celebratory tone that is infectious.
We’re looking forward to hearing more from The Group Fire, but for now we’ll enjoy this terrific introduction. Check them out below.
