(October 22, 2024) While some music trends change and evolve, certain things can stand throughout generations. Since the 1950’s it can be argued that soul music complete with lush harmonies and arrangements is one of the musical lanes in which artists who choose to enter can find success. The latest group to drive in this part of the musical highway is the the ensemble entitled The Freedom Affair.
This Kansas City-based collective is made of nine members and is led vocally by Seyko Groves, Paula Saunders, and Shon Ruffin. After the success of their debut album, 2020’s Freedom In Love, they have returned with their latest single, “Ain’t Gonna Cry No More.” Complete with an intro that would make Thom Bell proud, this song is crafted in such a way that it gives the listener a lot to enjoy. The sweet vocals of Groves, Saunders and Ruffin float over this track that is anchored by an equally talented band. There is a priority not only on the lead vocals but the background vocals as well that compliment the song’s theme. The pain of getting over a lost love is felt through the vocals, instruments and production.
The latest in a series of singles leading up to the sophomore album release next year. “Aint Gonna Cry No More” serves as a reminder of how timeless music can truly be.
