The 5to8s are “Falling Deeper” with cool new single

(May 4, 2025) Over a year ago, First Listen showcased the Godfather of Scandinavian Soul, Jonas Rendbo, celebrating his 50th birthday by gifting a lavish love song to his wife, “You Are Amazing.”  But there is more artistry flowing through this singer/songwriter besides his impressive two-decade solo recording reign.

As a co-vocalist with The 5to8’s, Rendbo and this octet co-pilot R&B, electronic, hip-hop and assorted grooves into spontaneous and improvisational territory. With these captivating elements that have reeled in audiences at top notch clubs throughout Denmark and Sweden, the collective has over 15 years appearing as a live music staple without the benefit of a recorded project.  However, this scenario changes in 2025 with the electronic underground debut single “Into the Black Hole” and the upcoming E.P., Strawberry Sessions – Part One in late May.

For their bow on First Listen, The 5to8’s offer many of their eclectic musical tastes with the follow up to “Into the Black Hole,” entitled “Falling Deeper.”

And their distinct live show energy is channeled by The 5to8’s production and songwriting teamwork. While the soundtrack shadows a Robert Glasper-like hip-hop sprinkled R&B, driven by the pounding, hiccupping drums and sparkling electric piano, Rendbo and Jonas Winge Leisner’s vocal bridges drop gentle soulful frosting.  However, at the core of “Falling Deeper” is rapper Kuku Agami lifting the intensity as the storyline examines overthinking in surviving the relationship obstacle course:

“Love is a game, is all I know
When you carry that heavy load
Your back is breaking
Clock is ticking.”

As the Strawberry Sessions – Part One E.P. draws closer, we anticipate checking out more of the The5to8’s forward thinking melodies and soundscapes.
