(May 13, 2017) The Right Now. That’s a serious name. It evokes a feeling of urgency. That needs are pressing. That issues must be dealt with not in some distant future or with “all deliberate speed,” but TODAY.

The Right Now is the name of a name of a seven-member funk, soul and pop band that out of Chicago. The power packed horn section and propulsive bass line and funky drums will evoke memories of the bands that influenced them. Their latest song that will be featured as a First Listen, “If It Was You,” is a call for something that if often sorely missing in today’s world, but is desperately needed RIGHT NOW: empathy. The tune was inspired by recent incidents of police involved shootings that ultimately led to the Black Lives Matter movement and some of the less enlightened and empathic responses to those developments.

The band tells us, “This is a slow burner that everyone can dance to, but the lyrics (lead singer) Stefanie (Berecz) sings are aimed at those who, in response to the Black Lives Matter movement, have unfairly vilified or denigrated the protesters. It asks everyone to put yourself in the shoes of an afflicted community and feel some compassion.” Check it out here.
