First Listen: Simon Law and Caron Wheeler bask in sweet “Morning Love”

(March 13, 2017) Toronto-based producer and keyboardist Simon Law co-penned Soul II Soul’s Grammy-winning 1989 smash, “Back to Life” (as well as the instrumental “African Dance”) and went on to rack up credits for the likes of Maysa, Chante’ Moore, and Duran Duran. The multi-faceted artist is now preparing for the release of his debut solo CD, Look to the Sky, and he’s introducing it in fine fashion via a new collaboration with fellow S II S mainstay, Caron Wheeler.

The smoothly nuanced, organically groovin’ “Morning Love” finds Law dropping a fresh midtempo arrangement driven by silky keyboards, touches of flute, and a coolly ingratiating beat. Atop the atmospheric setting, Wheeler provides a calm and subtly accented vocal which will resonate with fans of “Keep on Movin’” while also attracting neo-soul afficianados. In all, the musical combination is one marked by graceful nostalgia laced with modern production savvy.
