First Listen: Shaun Millz showers praises to his mother on “Well Done”
When one possesses the ability to deliver a special musical honor for a loved one — especially one who was instrumental in one’s musical direction — that personally injected melody can soar straight to the heavens. It never hurts that those vocal skills enhance the already poignant storyline, either. Now First Listen is proud to introduce independent gospel artist Shaun Millz, who worked his way from the church junior choir to a music scholarship. That is quite the achievement for Millz, who won the My Time Online Award in 2008 for interpreting Donny Hathaway’s stellar classic, “A Song For You.”
Eventually, the Newark, New Jersey native would develop his recording outlet, Abide Entertainment, where his 2012 debut single, “In His Hands,” topped the Nielsen/BDS charts. More importantly, this track provided a tribute to yet another parent who suffered a serious illness near the same time as his own mother. Thus, it came easy for Millz in writing his latest single, “Well Done (Mama)”, this time dedicated following his own mother’s passing. The minimal keyboard orchestration allows Millz to present this touching thank you note for his mother’s intuitive love – rich tenor, authentic tears and all. With gifted gospel singer/songwriters such as Millz, the industry continues to be blessed.
