Sargent Tucker asks “Can Lovers Be Friends” on new single

(January 19, 2024) The question of whether two people can be involved in a romantic relationship while also maintaining a friendship is one that is hotly debated. It’s right up there with the eternal debate of whether men and women can be friends in the first place. Of course, most will say yes to both questions, which sounds like the right answer. However, we also know that real life can blur things.

That topic is one that San Francisco-based singer/songwriter Sargent Tucker addresses in his song “Can Lovers Be Friends,” which drops today. The song possesses a mid-tempo stepper’s groove, meaning “Can Lovers Be Friends” is a cut that promotes couples dancing even as it lyrically asks couples to work through a question that often vexes people.

Tucker’s music reflects his world view. Not one to get caught up in trends, Tucker writes songs that extol timeless qualities such as being a gentleman, being kind to others, love, and togetherness. “Can Lovers Be Friends” is a song that encourages people to ask this question and find their own answers.

For the record, Tucker is firmly in the “yes” camp. The song reflects his belief that relationships rooted in friendship have the best potential to be long lasting. Check out Sargent Tucker’s “Can Lovers Be Friends” here.
