(April 18, 2018) We hadn’t previously heard of the Run N’ Fly, the band formed by Brazilian born, NYC-based guitarist Sandro Albert and lyricist Manu Lafer, but we’re glad we’ve found them. The two, along with drummer Omar Hakim and collection of New York session musicians and singers, have created something special. Flirting with soul, jazz and Latin music, their amalgamation of sounds has a timeless feel – while still providing timely groove.
The group has put together a series of songs that pay homage to iconic female figures, and we’re happy to feature one them, “Pam,” with our newest SoulTracks First Listen. After hearing Sandro Albert’s composition for “Pam,” Manu Lafer was reminded of seventies soul music and imagined various strong and powerful themes associated with it. As a result, he envisioned film star Pam Grier, which he used to craft lyrics to the song; her character was further supported by the band’s vocal harmonizing and full use of horns.
Check out “Pam” below, and welcome Run N’ Fly to SoulTracks!
