First Listen: Rita Satch refreshes us with “Breathe”

(November 26, 2024) Get ready for a unique soulful experience from Down Under. Bursting freshly unto the music scene, Uzbekistan born and Melbourne-raised Rita Satch is making strides using an ardent vocal jazz style that’s resonating with fans all over the world. With notable appearances at Glastonbury and the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, while emerging as a finalist at the National Jazz Awards in 2020, the rising songstress is now making inroads in the music biz using a passionate mix of smooth soul and jazz consecrated with glorious orchestral arrangements — all thanks to a set of refreshing singles being released ahead of her anticipated debut album.

On “Breathe,” the leader from the pair of tracks, you can hear a warm, cozy, relaxing Quiet Storm-focused R&B dripping with a raspy soul akin to Anya Day and Sia. Produced by Felix Bloxsom (Sam Sparro, Christina Aguilera, Sia) and mixed by three-time Grammy-winning engineer Ben Kane (D’Angelo, Emily King), “Breathe” is a magical carpet ride, harnessed by therapeutic vibes with a touch of Sade sensuality. You hear it so poignantly on the chorus: “Don’t forget to breathe/Feel that sweet relief/It’s right here underneath/You’ll find your inner peace.”

Inspired by the meditative mantra that “the most precious and abundant cost least,” Satch — born Margarita Satchakova — puts poetry into motion on the sultry ballad. “I wanted to remind people that the breath — the essence of life itself — is given freely, yet holds infinite value,” she says. “When we strip away the noise, we discover a quiet beauty, where the simple becomes sacred.”

Her forthcoming debut album, Meet Me in the Garden, is expected to be released in February of next year. In the meantime, breathe in and breathe out…and let us know your thoughts on this new SoulTracks First Listen.
