(September 6, 2016) When saxman Richard Elliot began preparing Summer Madness, his follow-up to 2014’s critically acclaimed Lip Service that will be released this Friday, he knew exactly what he wanted to do. First and foremost, it had to be funky. “When I was growing up in the ’70s and first learning to play the saxophone,” he says, “I was mostly attracted to instrumentally based R&B and to jazz that had R&B roots. This record definitely goes down that path, leaning more on the funk side.”
That funky side shows up nicely on an irresistible first track from the album. Working with such A-List musicians as trumpeter/trombonist Rick Braun and baritone saxophonist Curt Waylee, Richard delivers a funkified cover of Spyro Gyra’s classic “Cachaca.” It’s enough to get you out of your seat and dancing around the room.
We’re proud to present the World Premiere of “Cachaca,” which should be a real treat for SoulTrackers. And once you’re done listening to this song, check out our entire Listening Room for the album Summer Madness!
