First Listen: Ready for the World feels “So Much Life”

(August 9, 2018) During the mid-80s, there were few acts that were bigger than Ready For the World.  Their Jheri curl look made them the young heartthrobs of soul music, and their series of hit dance cuts and ballads were absolutely infectious. The Flint, Michigan act hit the sweet spot on the border between soul and funk, particularly with their #1 hit, “Oh Sheila.”

It’s been more than a decade since we heard new music from RFTW, but they’ve just returned with a new single that brings their sound up to date, with a more contemporary aura that works quite well for both new fans and old ones.

“So Much Life” is a midtempo number that tells the story of a man whose woman gives him the fulfillment he’s looking for. It’s a song of thankfulness, even with the thorns that love sometimes brings.

It’s great to hear Ready For the World back in form. Check out “So Much Life Below,” and welcome back an old favorite to SoulTracks.
