First Listen: Raja-Nee delivers an emotional gem on “Don’t Marry Her”
(October 26, 2016) One of the recurring complaints that I hear about a lot of R&B music is that it’s so “young sounding,” either in the vocals, the lyrical content or subject matter, or in the production techniques. We all know that musical tastes change with the generations, and the music of this generation has a definite hip-hop feel.
“Don’t Marry Her,” the latest single by Harvey, Illinois native Raja-Nee, is unapologetically all grown up. That should be no surprise coming from an artist who counts Marshall Thompson of the Chi Lites as a musical mentor. She describes the song in this way: “’Don’t Marry Her’ is a pure unadulterated Rhythm and Blues track where I attempt to evoke pure emotion in every lyric that I sing”.
Music fans who appreciate a vocalist who possesses a mature vocal instrument and who knows how to mine every ounce of vulnerability out torch song will like what they hear in “Don’t Marry Her.” Check it out.
