(May 12, 2016) One tablespoon of funk, two cups of go-go, dashes of hip-hop and a sultry falsetto and carnal verses from the one and only Raheem DeVaughn: “Tryna Go,” one of the new tracks featured on Turn It Up by go-go vets Rare Essence, reaffirms the popularity of the band and capitalizes off their heightening profile, thanks to being continuously sampling (Salt-N-Pepa, Amerie and Beyonce) and spun byThe Roots’ drummer/DJ ?uestlove as well as becoming the first go-go band featured at SXSW.
Cool as a fan yet bringing the heat with double-entendres that could be about getting groove on vertically or horizontally (“Naughty by nature baby, got to get our freak in”), “Tryna Go” could cold rock any type of get-together and should whet the appetites and increase traffic and downloads for what else Rare Essence is working with this time around.
