(September 21, 2018) The talk of the music world over the past month has been the upcoming Netflix documentary on the life of Quincy Jones, Quincy: A Life Beyond Measure. And it is tough for us to think of a musical giant who deserves it more. Jones has been the thread that ties together every musical style from ’50s jazz to modern hip-hop, and he is perhaps best know for his work as a producer in the 1970s and 80s working with artists such as Michael Jackson, Rufus, The Brothers Johnson, James Ingram, and many more.
As the soundtrack for the documentary was being put together, British superproducer Mark Ronson was tapped to take the helm with Q, and the first glimpse at his work is out now — and it is all that. With legendary vocalist Chaka Khan on board, the trio create a song that harkens back to Q’s 80s work, with big horns, an irresistible hook, and pure energy.
