First Listen: Philip Lassiter plays a funky game of “Hopscotch”

SoulTrackers probably don’t know the name Philip Lassiter, but they’ve no doubt enjoyed his work over the years. His contribution and relevance to the music industry are as diverse and celebrated as he is. The highlights of his impressive career include production and arranging work for seven GRAMMY winning projects with Fred Hammond and Kirk Franklin in addition to working as section-leader, arranger and lead trumpeter for Prince.

Now based in L.A., Phil is readying the release of his new album, Chill Mode (due January 20), and the sounds coming out of the studio are hot. We’re especially digging his newest single, “Hopscotch.” Produced by James Poyser of the Roots, “Hopscotch” has a jazzy underpinning but is really a piece of tasty funk that we think SoulTrackers will like.

Check out “Hopscotch” below and get ready to get in Chill Mode on January 20.
