The piano gives intimacy to the voice and the voice, when accompanied primarily or exclusively by a piano, endows the lyrics with a high level of intimacy. Paula Champion possesses the kind of the vocal instrument that brings honesty and vulnerability to any musical story that she chooses to tell.
That is definitely the case for her latest single, “Goodbye.” The track has a ripping-the-bandage-from-a-fresh-wound type of honesty along with the kind of introspection and self-awareness that comes from realizing that you’ve dedicated yourself to something that no longer is – or perhaps never was. That can be heard from the tune’s opening line; “Never thought that I would be that girl who would sing about a broken heart,” and it only grows from there. Check it out.
