(July 9, 2025) Since the start of doing First Listen reviews here, I’ve enjoyed the works of singer-songwriter Myriam-Catharina. Alternative R&B is what she calls song such as “Sometimes” and “Spell” – both of which I’ve written about. To my ears, the Germany-based Myriam cleverly combines a 60’s vibe with a touch of smoky jazz.
Her latest single, “Call My Name” (a collaboration with Frankfurt-based producer da.mian) takes on a unique twist, different from prior releases. Retro sounding organ chords along with the slow beat is the foundation, as Myriam describes meeting a long lost love in her dreams. “Love you when you cross my way…I’m down for you” she pines in her smoky voice. This took a couple of listens to grasp the meaning and direction of “Call My Name” but the more I heard it, the more enjoyable to the ear.
The track is definitely meant for late night chillouts and Quiet Storm radio formats, which is a compliment to Myriam-Catharina. As I felt with her prior works, I look forward to hearing more from her in the near future.
