Lalah Hathaway and Moonchild team on a nighttime gem

(January 7, 2022) With a downbeat groove and whispery vocals, the LA-trio Moonchild (Amber Navran, Andris Mattson, and Max Bryk) has become a favorite of soul, jazz and pop fans around the world over the past decade. And now as the group plans for its fifth album Starfruit (out February 11), we get a second sneak peek single, teaming the trio with a vocalist who is approaching legendary status.

Lalah Hathaway entered the game three decades ago and has created consistently engaging music ever since, winning Grammys and two SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards with her expressive song stylings. And her rich alto voice couldn’t be much more of a contrast to Navran’s airy stylings.

That’s part of what makes “Tell Him” such an interesting addition to Moonchild’s discography. Written by the trio with Hathaway, it is characteristically ethereal Moonchild midtempo number that benefits from the gravitas of Hathaway’s presence and from the vocal interplay between the women. The result is a worthy nighttime jam that would fit nicely on any Quiet Storm playlist.

Check out “Tell Him” and welcome this adventurous pairing of two acts at the top of their game.
