First Listen: Lynne Fiddmont Continues to flow on cover of Lou Rawls’ “Groovy People”

(July 20, 2016) After touring and recording for decades with the likes of Natalie Cole, Whitney Houston, and B.B. King, Lynne Fiddmont wooed fans of pure soul with her solo debut, Flow, in 2006, followed by Lady: A Tribute to Billie Holiday.

Back from an extended absence, the spirited singer is previewing her upcoming Power of Love CD with a pure and pleasing remake of Lou Rawls’ 1976 gem, “Groovy People.” She retains the feel-good essence of the original, while slowing down the tempo a bit and adding in a few new musical flourishes—sounding stylishly at ease with the tune’s message of striving for simplicity. One of Lynne’s first professional gigs was singing for the man himself, so it’s not surprising that her interpretation of the song is so effortlessly convincing.
