(June 2, 2020) The path to success in the music industry is usually filled with many twists and turns. Persistence is key—and quite often, so is the capacity for reinvention. UK tunesmith Lukas Setto has spent the better part of two decades testing the waters. He nabbed the Urban Music Award for Best Unsigned Act back in 2004 as Lee Henry, then created a buzz as both a lead artist and remixer via several breakout hits under the pseudonym Tru Menace. A couple of stage names later, he has at long last begun cementing his stature as a quality hitmaker.
Setto turned heads last year with his independent releases “What Turns You On” and “OMG,” gaining steady rotation on Internet soul radio. Continuing in the melodically minded ‘90s groove mode of those cuts, he’s priming to unleash a third single under his new moniker. Bearing the timely title “Lockdown,” the jam is anything but an ode to social distancing. “Let’s make up for time that we lost/We can pick up where we left off,” Setto croons. “I wanna share some babies/And no, I’m not gone crazy, I want you as part of my life.”
With the platform of a classy arrangement ideal for a roller-skating night, Setto and co-producer Michael Daley craft a number that is at once danceable and romantic. Setto’s silky tenor delivery is a choice coating for the affair, resulting in satisfying ear candy that’s likely to appeal to a wide variety of listeners.
