(May 27, 2021) The first look at the computer-generation photo is unnerving. It looks like a “mini-me” of Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, the legendary songwriter, producer and performer.
But “Lil BayFace” is a light-hearted look back by Babyface at some of his early demo work as a young songwriter. Face posted a mock press conference with him interviewing his younger self about the first song pulled from the vault, a original demo of “Rock Steady,” an early Babyface/L.A. Reid composition that became a #1 smash for The Whispers and began a decade-plus period of chart domination.
The whole “Lil BayFace” look is a bit creepy, but there is no denying the power of the music, even in a rougher demo form. “Rock Steady” was and is the real deal.
Face is promising more of these and we’re all for it. But please, put away that picture!
