(December 18, 2018) Leela James has been a SoulTracks favorite for more than a decade. Her classic, deep voice has graced the various shades of soul music, and she has won a legion of fans — and a SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Award — in the process.
Leela is working on a new album for 2019, but in the meantime, she has just issued a new single that debuted in the televised Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. The song, “This Is Me,” is a muscular anthem that sounds like the kind of brash, big number that appears on the big screen. It is different than the more soulful sounds that have dominated Leela’s catalog, but of course she kills it on this song and makes it a very worthwhile affair.
