(June 16, 2025) For a prolific artist who produces, writes, arranges, etc. yet rarely sings a note, Kirk Franklin consistently uplifts the atmosphere and unifies his audiences with nuggets of hope. And that is why we all sing, to loosely quote one of his biggest hits with The Family back in the day.
On June 9th, the veteran entrepreneur of Fo Yo Soul Recordings received one of 4 BET Ultimate Icon Awards for his magnetic personality and music that raised contemporary gospel, blending it with other genres to attain another plateau. Through his well decorated career, SoulTracks recognized some of Franklin’s achievements – including partnering powerhouse vocalists Tamela Mann and Yolanda Adams on “Superheroes Prayer” and reconstructing the Jackson 5 1981 disco track, “Can You Feel It.”
Kirk Franklin returns to First Listen with “Do It Again” (Fo Yo Soul/Tribl), a declaration of God’s faithfulness through the tough stuff. And locking into that infectious vibe guided by a zealous choir, the wall-to-wall bounce and positivity are familiar stamps with Franklin’s hitmaking. Oh, yes, there is a message behind “Do It Again” to flip our mindset from down to up:
“Every stumble happens for a reason
Every seed you planted, it is your season
God is working on something for you somehow.”
While the choir is in the forefront, Franklin makes sure there is proper call and response. Once again, Franklin focuses on blending the affirming with gospel teaching for believers and others who may be seeking what faith offers. Listen up!
