First Listen: New Motown star Kevin Ross begs “Don’t Go”

(January 8, 2016) Sometimes, from out of nowhere, it happens—-the low-key cutie pie you’re with shrugs off the sweet, wants to get serious and then turns up The Sexy. Cuddling and kissing leads to unexpected passion and instead of fleeing his emotions, Boo Thang reveals his heart, a moment that Kevin Ross captures in song with the airy yet sensual boudoir ballad, “Don’t Go.”

Crooning above a hypnotic melody patterned after Michael Jackson’s Off The Wall classic, “I Can’t Help It,” Ross stays in the moment by keeping her close to his side while spilling the contents of his heart, simultaneously vulnerable yet in control of where he wants their love to go: “Girl you got me strung out and I’m feeling like a user/ and I can’t put you down, you’re my past but now my future.” Another enjoyable glimpse into his talents, Kevin Ross’s “Don’t Go” recalls that old-soul MJ influence, yet all the while, the adeptness and the artistry remain his own.
