(July 6, 2025) R&B fans know the name Keith Mitchell from his years as a founding member – and occasional lead singer – in the popular vocal group After 7. Teamed with brothers Kevon and Melvin Edmonds, Mitchell helped After 7 issue a string of big hits in the 80s and 90s, including “Ready or Not,” “Can’t Stop” and “Baby I’m For Real.” After 7 split in the 90s, but reformed in 2015, ultimately nabbing both Song of the Year and Group of the Year at the SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards.
Keith has left After 7 again, this time to establish a solo Gospel career. And he begins that journey with “He’s Alive,” the lead single from his upcoming debut album Food for Your Life, due later in 2025. Opening with a bright organ intro, the cut is an uptempo song of praise that expresses eternal faith in the power of Jesus to guide our lives.
Mitchell says, “I’m sold out on my beliefs and ready to shout and sing them to the world. I think folks that listen to ‘He’s Alive’ and the other songs on the album are gonna find out that I’m in love with a loving God and a genuine praiser of God. Taking His Word and putting it into words and melodies has truly helped me find answers to who I am, what my purpose is and why God is such an all-encompassing Presence in my life.”
Keith Mitchell is in strong voice, and “He’s Alive” is a great way for a longtime favorite to begin a new chapter. Check it out below.
