(October 15, 2020) Sting and Shaggy made Grammy winning magic when they collaborated on the song “Don’t Make Me Wait.” The duet featured two distinct voices, Sting’s gravelly voice and Shaggy’s clear and powerful baritone, singing over a reggae beat as they tried to convince the object of their desire to cast away the hesitancy and embrace the love.
Singer songwriter Kameron Corvet, the writer of “Don’t Make Me Wait,” is no stranger to SoulTracks, and he returns with a solo remaking of the Shaggy-Sting duet. Corvet’s version will appear on Kathy’s Basement, his soon-to-be released EP.
Corvet possesses a honey sweet tenor voice that can easily move into the falsetto range, and he deploys those vocal chops on his acoustic soul reimagining of “Don’t Make Me Wait.” Where the reggae version fit the voices of Shaggy and Sting, who has long explored the sounds of the Caribbean as a member of the Police and as a solo artist, the sparse guitar and voice arrangement of Corvet’s cover allow listeners to fully hear and enjoy the beauty of Corvet’s vocal instrument.
