October 15 2019 – A simple and often effective music production technique is to build a track slowly, adding new elements incrementally and making it literally unfold for the listener like a flower.
Witness our featured new track, “Smoke and Mirrors,” by the UK duo Ka-Li, composed of vocalist Indigo Lilly and producer Sam Posner, along with UK singer/songwriter Kadeem Tyrell. The track begins with a dry, soulful vocal from Tyrell accompanied by only a single electric guitar, and gradually builds from there into a magnificent, reverb-drenched soundscape. When Lilly’s rich, syrupy lead vocal drops in – which is one of my favorite performances this year – the track just takes off. Enjoy.
