(November 15, 2024) Julian Jonah has been making the kind of music that draws people to the dance floor since the late 1980s, when his song “Jealousy and Lies” showed that House Music had grown beyond its Chicago roots. Jonah is still creating infectious, up-tempo cuts that liven up weekend nights.
His latest song, “Let’s Not Say Goodnight,” pairs him with powerhouse vocalist Robbie Love, a singer who has the history of popular music as a part of her bloodlines. Love is the daughter of Mary Love, one of music’s great soul singers who is revered by soul music aficionados. Mary Love is best known for the song “You Turned My Bitter Into Sweet” in 1965.
Robbie Love brings her mother’s vocal chops to the “Let’s Not Say Goodnight,” a high energy love song fuses jazz infused disco with 1980s era funk. Love has the power in her voice to cut her own path a track where she implores her lover to make the most of their time together.
Jonah produces a track that features horns that add tight harmonic flourishes, as well as jazzy improvisation. The backing vocals engage in the kind of call and response that will take music lovers back to the 1970s, while the strings give the tune a lush Philadelphia International feel.
