(August 14, 2024) Joss Stone has a songwriter’s ability to take the words out of our mouths and express the sentiments of our hearts. She and co-writer and longtime collaborator Steve Greenwell do that on “Loving You,” her latest single and first new song in two years.
The story told in “Loving You” will ring true to anyone who is so enamored by someone that they want to remain in that person’s presence and will get imaginative to make those fleeting moments last.
Stone said she drew inspiration from the budding romance with her current husband. “I thought our nights round the fire were magical and wanted to write a song about those evenings that are so enjoyable they can run into the next day without anyone noticing,” Stone said.
Stone’s dilemma, which she captures sweetly in “Loving You,” is that she’s a night owl while he’s the early to bed, early to rise type. Stone said she often ended up trying to convince him to stay with her. “Funny thing is Cody did stay, he just fell asleep,” Stone recalled.
The song’s arrangement captures that dreamy vibe as “Loving You” has the feel of a lullaby. Stone’s phrasing is conversational and seductive as she makes her case for this lovely evening to continue.
It’s good to hear from Joss Stone, a vocalist who has sounded like a seasoned veteran from the time she burst onto the scene at a 16-year-old. Two decades later at a still very young 37, Stone continues to feed our need for good R&B music. Check out Joss Stone’s “Loving You” here.
