(April 10, 2025) Minneapolis native Jordan Johnston doesn’t have to look far for musical inspiration, and he’s been influenced and inspired by the legends who called the Twin Cities Home – from Prince to JImmy Jam and Terry Lewis and Mint Condition. Johnston has a connection to the Minneapolis sound that is closer to his home and heart in his father, drummer Bob Johnston.
The elder Johnston served as a staff writer for Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis’s Flyte Tyme Production. So, when Jordan Johnston needed someone to put some funk in his band’s rhythm section, he called on dad. Jordan Johnston’s work shows that he’s an apt pupil. Johnston has the Twin Cities talent of being able to make music for any season. Just witness his prior release of the ballad “What If.”
Now Jordan Johnston returns with the funky, up-tempo banger, “Never Get Enough.” The cut possesses a bouncy and propulsive bass line and infectious work on the drum that will have people rhythmically marching to the dance floor. Jordan attaches his sweet tenor to an energetic song that finds him ready to get more than his fill from his lady. This track has all the elements of a throwback dance track. It actually strikes a nice balance between hard driving 70s funk with a touch of 80s synth funk. Fans of Minneapolis funk will dig this one.
