(February 25, 2017) Jef Kearns has been one of the instrumentalists who has been consistently on the SoulTracks radar for the better part of the last decade. That is notable because his chosen instrument, the flute, is not one that comes to mind as a lead instrument even though it been used frequently as a solo instrument by soul, R&B and funk bands, particularly in the musically diverse 1970s.
Kearns is an aggressive and creative player with more than enough ideas in his head to make albums that served as the platform for his concepts of flute fancy since at least 2009. SoulTrackers most recently heard Kearns in 2016 when he paired with vocalist Carlos Morgan on the ballad “Just Jane.” He returns with a new song titled “N2U” that features the vocal contributions of Canadian singer Ms. Paige. The track can be heard in an artsy and stylized video. Check it out.
