July 20, 2017 – We first introduced you to the talented soulstress and comedienne Jade Novah back in January, when we recommended her humorous holiday music video, “Slay Bells,” in which she performs spot-on imitations of Beyoncé and Toni Braxton, among other R&B divas. Since then Jade has been busy working as an in-demand backup singer and has made several YouTube videos in which she performs covers of her favorite contemporary hits.
Jade’s new videos showcase her special vocal talent; her rich tone, range, phrasing, nuance, and interpretive skills place her easily among the best new R&B vocalists we’ve heard in quite some time. So we are collectively asking ourselves here at SoulTracks: Why hasn’t a label already discovered, signed and launched her? A&R folks, please, get on it!
We feature here Jade’s sublime, short covers of “Passionfruit” by Drake and “Japanese Denim” by Daniel Caesar. Her range on the latter is especially spine-tingling, and while there is a bit of “salty” language in the opening lines, we hope you’ll forgive it when you hear the performance that follows. Enjoy.
