There aren’t many badder bands in the cosmos than the legendary Isley Brothers. The family band from Ohio delivered the goods for over a half century, and it is tough to look at the history of rock, soul and funk without pausing to examine the contributions of Ronald, O’Kelly, Rudolph, Ernie and Marvin Isley and Chris Jasper. They bridged so many eras of popular music development, and they excelled at each.
That’s why we’re going ga-ga over the upcoming release of The Isley Brothers: The RCA Victor and T-Neck Album Masters (1959-1983), a monumental 23-disc box set, on Friday, August 21, 2015.
Importantly, this set also includes, released for the first time in its entirety, the “Great Lost Isley Brothers Album” Wild In Woodstock: The Isley Brothers Live At Bearsville Sound Studio 1980. First conceived as a “live” double album (with overdubbed crowd noise), this newly restored performance offers an immersive look at a crucial chapter in The Isley Brothers’ history, a pivotal moment in the fusion of rock and funk music in an era fueled by the sound of the Isleys.
So we’re very proud to be presenting to SoulTrackers the World Premiere of one of the songs from that long lost album. A fantastic medley of some of the Isley Brothers’ biggest love ballads: “Hello It’s Me / Footsteps In the Dark / For the Love of You.” It is a terrific slice of work from a group that was at it’s absolute peak.
